My nephew picked up alef-bais by himself at around age 2, from hearing his 4 year old brother practicing his kria. I was listening to him on the phone as my sister was showing off his skills. Down the alef-bais he went, peh, ende feh, tzadi, ende tzadi...ende resh, resh...!! Well, if you think about it doesn't a kuf look like an ende resh?!
