I bought a baby present for a good friend, but I just found out that she already has almost the same thing. Is it ok to ask her what she needs? I'm afraid she won't really say. She has a few older girls and this is the first boy. I want to get something special because she's a good friend.

Unless you want to give a gift card, I think asking is lovely. You sound like a very special friend.

you certainly should ask her. I really appreciated when people asked me what I needed rather than stuffed my house with toys.

I always appreciate when ppl ask. But I think you should automatically offer how much you're interesting in spending. I always get uncomfortable when ppl ask what I want without specifying a price-range, cuz then I'm unsure what to ask for.

The offer should be more descriptive then, as in - do you need a few new outfits or do you need a crib ?

when people ask me what I need, I say - diapers!
I figure this can fit any price range - since you can buy 1 small pkg for less then $10 or a box or more. they can even add wipes!
and its honest, every new baby needs diapers - they can't exactly be handed down now...
sorry op, I know this isn't what you had in mind.

Yes. Give choices though so that she won't be at a loss of what to say and she will know your price range.

I loved what u said soldat...I once worked in a summer camp as a head counselor and wanted to get a gift for the rabbi/wife/family at the end of the summer and casually asked what they wanted and they had baby twins and said diapers...but laughed it off and said I dont needa get anything.
I showed up with $100 worth of diapers and a personalized card and boy were they Smile

I got a cute gift once- a friend filled a really cute garbage can with all kinds of useful baby stuff. Diapers, wipes, baby wash, diaper creme, etc. It was so nice not to have to worry about that stuff for a bit!

If you get diapers, get size two or larger.

I had big babies and always had way too many small sized diapers.

Most babies get big fast. And women gain more weight then they used to, and it's rare to have a really small baby.

I never buy a newborn or size small. I always get a medium if I buy an outfit.

cm I have tiny babies and they dont fit into 0-3 until they are about 3 months old. my baby's dont get really fat, and I have so many things that I was never able to use because they never fit my baby.

If you are close enough deifinately ask.
I was happy my friends asked me what I really needed instead of getting me something I might not of used.
