Chasdei Lev is often mentioned here as a Morah/Rebbi/Chinuch benefit.

Is it assumed that chasdei Lev exists in every school?

My husband works in a school that does NOT offer Chasdei Lev. (fyi, he works 30-36 hours a week, and has three other jobs)

My daughter lives in another state and her school offers Chasdei Lev. The school explained to them that Chasdei Lev is supposed to be subsidized by the school and since their school cannot afford to subsidize, the teachers can benefit by paying “bulk” prices, but not “cheap/super discounted” prices.
It’s maybe a 20-25% savings over typical supermarket prices but not less than if the store had pre-YT specials.

What is Chasdei Lev providing in schools that it is being presented here as such a tremendous financial benefit?

In my community chasdei lev gives free meat and lots of other foods before yuntif to chinuch families and just had a really really good two days sale on wigs for morahs and wives of rabbeim. There is fundraising for chasdei lev throughout the year here.

Most of the schools I know of, for the Rebbeim only have food/yt essentials provided at 1/10 of the cost so a whole box of chicken let's say is $10. I believe they have a limit of how much they could spend (and therefore their benefits) but it's a tremendous help for the schools that subsidize. I also know of a school that the men (ONLY) in the admin office use it also and I totally disagree that they should but I am not Hashem and can't make cheshbonos about everyone else's parnassah

Depending on where you live/what school you work in, you don't necessarily get chasdei lev or even more of the chasdei lev benefits. We get chasdei lev for the bulk discounted orders before pesach and yomim noraim, but that's it.

In the 5 towns there is a chasdei level distribution before sukkos and pesach. I believe it is free for the rebbeim as they just pull up in the cars and get boxes of goods and all get the same so it can't be pre-orders. Maybe someone who knows more can chime in. I know from the other side as DH and DS volunteer.

If it's the regular chasdei lev orders it is not free.

So the rebbi pays? I am correct that everyone gets the same package right? So what if some of the stuff is things you have no need for? Is it still worth it

1/3 is paid for by the organization
1/3 is paid for by the school
1/3 is paid for by the rebbi

The orders can be customized.
The info I have is from my next door neighbor who’s a recipient and we’re very close. Correct me if I’m wrong

Correct. You fill out an order form to say what you want and it says how much everything costs you.

No you are not correct. Everyone orders their stuff and it is not free just subsidized by the school and the organization.

As others have said, it’s not free. It is something close to the 1/3 splits that sometimes mentioned above. The prices are often not quite as good as pre yt sales in supermarkets in town. There is generally a limit of between 300-350 that one can spend on the order. There are also often limits on how many of an individual item each person can order. I am very grateful, it is helpful, but it is not some free enormous handout that some people clearly imagined. The amount of unbridled jealousy and anger about what some people think rabbeim are getting on this site is so disgusting and completely misinformed.

Several posts on this thread have misinformation, actually. And why in heavens name are people who don’t know how it works answering at all?
And the tone time and time again is that other people work so much harder, and Rabbeim and teachers get so many handouts they are actually coming out far ahead.

Not chasdei lev - but lkwd had a program this Chanukah to buy very subsidized linen and tablecloths. It’s very nice. I wonder if it is possible to bring to other communities.

Chasdei lev is not free

The school you work in has to participate in the program , which costs them money so not all school does

The teacher gets an order form and with prices , limits on quantities and a budget. The teacher pays a small portion.

Pesach winds up being about $2000 worth of groceries for the teacher. Which is amazing.

Bearing in mind this is if the school participates , ect.

Also bear in mind this is the bonus. For example, most business provide their staff a New Years bonus (if it pertains to staff) or a Pesach bonus.

This is in instead of a Pesach bonus for some teachers/Rebbes.
