DS says that his mattress in yeshiva is very hard and uncomfortable and I'm worried that it's bad for his back. Is there something I can buy (other than a different mattress) to make it more comfortable?
What have others done in this situation?

My son also complained. I bought a mattresses topper on Amazon. Was about 35$. He is so thankful, he says it’s really comfortable now.

A mattress topper although a good one is probably more than $35 but well worth it as you can use it for many years.
The best toppers are memory foam and at least 2" if not 3".
I got one of these and it enabled me to get a few more years out of an old mattress until I had the ability to buy a really great mattress.
