What is the benefit of this? My teenage daughter is a wonderful girl, top in her grade, with it, etc every month it’s a tears about the RC sweater she needs. Every month it “needs” to be a new sweater or it’s socially not acceptable. We have ran out last minute on a few occasions to find that “perfect” RC sweater. Why is this even a thing? I’ve seen mothers in women’s stores rolling their eyes every month “here for our RC sweaters.” Don’t we have enough pressures? Why are we creating a new one?

Maybe it’s a lkwd thing. And specific school thing.
My dd school does not have the pressure at all bH. But it must be so hard if there is such pressure.

Honestly, I think the RC sweater is way more social pressure than not having a uniform. It that need for it to be perfect because it’s your “only chance” and all eyes are on it. It’s a terrible idea.

Never heard of that but that sounds utterly crazy. I literally can't get over then idea of this. I can't for the life of me understand how people manage to live in communities where these things happen

Wow. We had this as teenagers but mostly just wore the same Juicy sweater and that was socially acceptable. I bought mine with babysitting money. I can’t believe what it has come to.

We had them growing up in Brooklyn in the 90s-early 2000s. But sure every issue is a Lakewood one.

So are you all saying every month the girls need a new sweater? If thats the case, id make her pay for it. Thats just ridiculous, every month.
Talk about gashmius at its worst.

We had the pressure when I was in high school 20 yrs ago! I work in a popular Lakewood school and actually pleasantly surprised that most girls just wear uniform

I live in Lakewood and I have a high school dd. I have never heard of such a thing!
In fact, my dd school has a rule that no other sweaters other than the school sweater can be worn

What color sweater?
DDs wear navy sweaters (really more like thick tshirts) and uniform collars (dickies in the old days), white collars on R"C. Do they wear something different?

They are allowed to wear thier own clothing in honor of Rosh Chodesh. They can wear any top with the uniform skirt.

Have the same thing and not in Lakewood. Unfortunately, these girls are controlled in so many areas of their lives that this is one opportunity for them to break out of this mold for 30 seconds.

My DDs school allows Shabbos clothes on rosh chiodesh. Rewearing is normal. I can't imagine having to buy new each time.

Has anyone spoken to the schools? Because if they knew this was happening maybe they would put a stop to it…

Not Lakewood. We have the sweaters thing. They can rewear- we have three or four, and she wears them on Motzai Shabboses and Sundays too. We buy them off Amazon or at Target or Kohls, and they fit in just fine with the ones bought in a frum store. A 2 day Rosh Chodesh does make it a bit more difficult for girls who only have one, but they will often just wear a black zip up over their normal sweater. It's also socially acceptable to have forgotten about Rosh Chodesh when you got dressed.
