Spinoff of the bonus thread.
My jaw was on the floor.

My husband makes 85k as Staff Accountant.
He gets a yearly New Years bonus of $360. Nothing Sukkos and Pesach. Occasionally some chocolate for Purim.

He does get some insurance benefits.

Anyone else, they or their husband gets more modest bonuses.

My husband has never received a bonus in his life. He works for a small jewish company. He's in a managerial position. He gets paid very nicely (more than 85k) but the most he'll get is a bottle of wine for yom tov.
My boss doesn't give official bonuses but he'll give me a cash bonus here and there whenever he feels I am doing an outstanding job. I have received anywhere between $250 and 1k. Some years I get nothing.

My DH is in administration in a moised (not school) and travels quite a bit. He makes $105k. Before pesach and sukkos we get a case of wine and $250.
Our bonus is parsonage, tuition and camp paid directly coming out pretax (and anything else legal), all yomim tovim are vacation days and meaningful work.

I worked for years as an executive for a large Jewish company that gave me amazing bonuses -$1500 for monthly goals, offers to use the owner’s private jet, etc. They were also toxic and abusive. I left this summer and have never felt more free and alive. Many times the pay and bonuses come at a price.

I get a bonus (BH currently the target is about 20% of my salary, depending on financial performance of my company—big company. Though my bonus immediately goes to pay our property taxes so I don’t really see it). My husband has never gotten one and likely never will because he is self-employed.

Who doesn't love a big bonus? But really, it comes down to total compensation for the year. If someone else gets a $25,000 bonus and I get a $100 gift certificate, but I still brought in more income for the year, then so what?

You have to compare apples to apples. Look at everything. Salary. Benefits (insurance? 401K? sick and vacation days? Car/gas/toll/travel allowance? Any kind of discounts on merchandise, services, tuition, etc?)

Looking at bonus alone and getting upset is silly.

My husband has never gotten a bonus ever. He is in manager position in a very small company. The most we got was gifts for our kid seven they where born and a bar mitzvah gift for my son.

I work in an office. I got $250. We also get gift cards weekly depending on how we perform.

I am a special ed therapist through an agency -- 0 bonus (some years we get donuts or the like... didn't get any gift this year yet...unless you count from the school we were work...a small gift card and lunch)
I teach in a BY/ yeshiva - they're a month or two behind in paychecks.... - but I did get a $150 amex card, so that was nice!
my husband does title I (teaching paid by gov) and got $200. He works way fewer hours for them than I do at my jobs...

some years I get bonuses others not depending where I work at the time. I think that all business should give some sort of bonus at some point during the year it is great for employee moral.

Yes in the long run a bigger paycheck is better than a bonus but when everyone around you is getting bonuses you also want a bonus. It leaves bad taste not to give something. The extra few hundred typically won't hurt a successful business.

If the business is in bad shape I can see not giving a bonus but then something else should be given in exchange like a paid vacation day, leave early Chanukah, a scratch off lotto card or small gifts. It's a way to say thank you to the staff that has your back.

I totally agree. I happen to get a large bonus at work, but I would much prefer to just get paid more as my regular salary. If I leave my job in the middle of the year I’m giving up a large part of my compensation for the year. My husband doesn’t get a bonus but makes more.

It’s the same when people get large tax refunds. It just means you paid the IRS too much money all year.

Wow I’m really appreciating my company now, they give bonuses 3x a year for $1,000. Though I do complain that I’d rather make more than get a bonus they do come in handy YT time.

Most people don't get bonuses.

Some industries, such as financial services, law firms, and BIG corporations, give out year-end bonuses as part of their incentive package.

If you don't work for one of these types of jobs, you aren't supposed to get a bonus. Don't let the floor hurt your jaw.

And what if the staff doesn’t have your back ? I’m pro giving bonuses , but not always does everyone deserve them . (If you work for me and you’re on here , not you. You deserve a bigger bonus. )
