I have been discussing this subject with a friend who works with people's finances and she claims many wives don't know whether they are in debt or not. I'm curious to see what kind of response I get here.

I am in the dark about this stuff and very happy with it. Dh is not controlling at all. This is just the system that works for us.

The question is, does my husband know our bills, bank accounts, and financial situation. lol.

ADHD husband = wife fully in charge of $$

Not only do I know, we are equal partners in how we spend, save and invest our money.

If not for me I think we’d have little savings and investments but very fancy cars 😅

I do, dh does not but he has access to our accounts so he can see anything if he chooses to.

I'm not involved and I love it. I consciously let go and gave this over to my husband a few years into our marriage. And never looked back.

As I am the one with a smart phone I check our account frequently. He makes the money and I take care of the family. He know what he makes. Occasionally he asks me to check if he is filling out forms for financial aid.

A poll would never answer this. I’d assume wives don’t know because their husbands hide it from them.

Where is the connection between the title, the poll and the OP?!

One may be uninvolved in the bills but know for sure that they are not in debt.

I know some women don’t, and it makes me both angry and sad. Unless there’s serious mental health concerns such as extreme anxiety, why should a wife not know how much cc debt “her husband” has? Why should she then go on and swipe another 5k for yom tov clothing for kids so her husband can go shnor from his family and friends, and everyone can look at her like a nebech?

Same. Plus I have a smartphone and he doesn't and I'm constantly checking bank accounts, credit card balances...

I’m in charge of the bills because it’s easier for me to do it myself than to nag my husband to do it

OP I don't think your poll is going to be accurate. I know plenty of women IRL who fit into your last category but obviously they are not voting here Very Happy .

Dh and I both work, we each have our own completely separate bank account and we split bills more or less fairly. We don't know the exact amount of each other's money in the bank but I assume dh would tell me if his was in the minus. I would mention if mine was, even if only in order to shift some bills over to him. I guess he would have the same motivation. We discuss bigger spendings openly.
We got married when we both were older and working. I think that naturally lead to our arrangement.

Exactly. I'm not really involved at all in the bills. My husband is the numbers guy in our fam, his father is an accountant, and my husband takes after him. I'm ok with that 100%. I have full and equal access to our accounts. If I WERE the one overseeing our finances, we'd have been in debt a long time ago lol.

Can we add option for wife knows and husband isn’t fully aware, because he’s terrible at numbers, and wife handles all the finances?

DH is way better with this.
He owns a business. Some money he converts to shekels for us to use. Some stays as dollars. Some is in the business, some is in personal. He just keeps me updated on if this is a high or low month and what currency to use for shopping.

It's so fluid I'd go crazy with the details. He loves it.

It works for us!

I think once debt starts piling up, that's when a husband can become more inclined to leave his wife out of things, to try to shield her.

Is she a child that needs to be shielded from the realities of life? I don't understand how it's good for anyone for the wife to be in the dark.
