Anyone change over to split units with the coned rebate?
What is the difference in cost compare to previously using your boiler?

I don’t exactly understand your question but we have split units and they’re really not ideal for heating

We have them too- we did it through the Coned rebate program 2 years ago. We tried using them as our primary heating source and quickly realized they do not do a good enough job once the outside temperature drops below 50. We hooked our boiler back up as soon as we were able. Unfortunately our boiler is then broke and we can't afford to fix it, so we are using the split units and suffering with the cold...

If they dont heat well, are they really money saving for cooling in comparison to window units, and worth the extra price, just for cooling?

They do not heat. Its like the heat in your car but try heating a parking lot with just your car.

I only use them to quickly warm up a cold room and then turn it off.

They could do heat, it needs to be a special unit (read more expensive as well) that’s primary heat. If you have a hyper heat unit that’s sized well, it’ll work. It’ll just make the air a bit dry.

They do cool very well. And I'm not sure about money saving, but we are very comfortable in the summer

We are using them for heat but our house was insulated as well. They do work, just gets a bit stuffy for the whole night. We often put on the basement units and heat rises so we feel warm in the floor above. On the very cold nights, we set it in our bedrooms a bit lower so it only turns on at that temp and keeps it that way, that is working for us.

The person who installed them actually complety damaged our boiler (on purpose I think, in case coned came to check) so we can’t reconnect it even if we wanted to at this point.

We bought a house B"H. The seller had pulled out the radiators and installed split units for heat. When the temperature drops outside to 30 degrees, all we get were error messages from our split units. We ended up installing radiators and fixing the boiler.

How does this compare to heating with central?

We have splits for AC and we tried using them for heat when we were waiting for a boiler repair. We found that they can’t heat when it’s below freezing outside. Maybe we have the wrong unit bc it wasn’t installed for heat. But it’s something you need to confirm.

I have split units for both cooling and heating. I also have solar. In the summer my bills are really low. But the winter definitely makes up for it. Would live to put hvac back in. Does anyone know if I need special permission from coned for that? It's really not working for us. The house is always cold. Hate it. And it's soo expensive

Sure your gas bill will be less
But your electric bill more
Which is more expensive?

Was wondering if I need permission from coned to put hvac back in since they gave the split units.

My husband does HVAC. He always says that forced air for heat never works as well as a boiler. Definitely stay with a boiler for heat.
It works great for a/c though.
