If you are not makpid to always strap your children into car seats, or regular seats for that price, I am so so curious to hear your thoughts behind it...

Do you expect the law breakers to respond?

If I am going around the corner or a few blocks away within the neighborhood ie. not crossing intersections with traffic lights, then I will let them be unstrapped while I drive super slow. No, I don’t think this is the best or smartest thing to do and I know it’s risky. But I’m 9 months pregnant and they’re not at the age yet where they can strap themselves in and I’m going 2 blocks away in a very quiet out of town neighborhood, so some times I choose not to overexert myself and juts slowly drive where we need to go. I pretend like I’m pulling a wagon with unstrapped kids inside, and then I remind myself to go slow.

Not me but DH often only does the chest straps in the car seat. It makes me so nervous but I can’t control it if I’m not there

Dh always says this to me “but I’m going slow” and I respond with “but the other drivers aren’t”

Statistically the most accidents happen a few blocks from your home. Strap them in, you’ll never forgive yourself if something did happen.

Did you speak to him about it? You can and should put your foot down and not tolerate him risking your kids lives.

Forgot to add in that I would never not strap in a baby, these are older toddlers/little kids.

Makes no difference and teach them to strap themselves. Don’t teach them that it’s ok to not be strapped in. And don’t put them at risk.

I came here to say this !
Thank youlets keep repeating!
Statistically the most accidents happen close to home! I know several people suffering for many years from wip blash from car accidents within a few blocks of home

My family were in an accident round the corner from the house on a small side street. The drivers was going slow but had to stop to give way to the other car, she mistakenly hit the gas instead of brakes.
BH nothing much more than whiplash but it made a different that it was 11 + 14 yr old sitting nicely and not toddlers or young kids.

Unfortunately a toddler died in a car accident near my house - he was strapped in but in a regular seatbelt, not car seat. It can happen driving down the block. Please don’t take the risk!

When I was highly pregnant with lots of little ones who all needed five piint harnesses I learnt its easier to walk two blocks (well a lot more than that) than to drive! Yes double carriage plus kids on sides through snow and rain.
Can be an easier option than buckling and unbuckeling everyone

Most accidents happen within 10 miles of home.
There are idiots on the road.
I got hit once when someone backed out of a driveway and didn't look. We were safe, going slow... they didn't look at us at all.
Or crazy drivers who use cell phones.
This is not an excuse. Don't drive if you can't buckle them in. Walk or put them in that wagon.

Accidents don’t happen when you’re prepared for them.
I used to tell that to dh repeatedly, until it finally commuted in the extremely optimistic brain of his.

That's no excuse.

And this is why no one is going to come forward and say they don’t buckle. If you want people to be open and honest you need to be judgment free
Ftr I’m one of those fanatics who follows every rule about car seat safety to the last detail even just to go an inch away
