If you or your dh are in law what is your current income and how many years have you been working? Where is your office located?

What’s the trajectory after this, partner? And if you don’t make partner does the salary ceiling out for of counsel positions?

Wow, that sounds great! How many weekly hours are they expected to bill, and do they all have to be in the office or can some be done remotely?

Out of town. My husband is in a small office and his base salary is 95k with bonuses and commisions comes to around 125k a year.
His hours are 9-6 and very flexible when leaving early or coming in late. No benefits.

I just want to paint a realistic picture for those considering entering the profession. Not everyone gets in or is the type to do big law. The student loans are tremendous.

I’m not the ima you were asking but in general NY BigLaw jobs have long unpredictable hours. 12 hour days + commute is common. Working on the weekends is almost expected.

Firm? I mean investment bank fintech company or similar.
It’s hard. Biglaw pretty transparent-although some firms have stricter bonus hour requirements-but for of counsel and partner or going in house there’s so little information.

A partner in big law makes around 1-2 million a year. It takes around 8-10 years of big law to make partner and it’s not a given. Counsel is around 800k

FYI - Some lawyers in private practice are making way more than these numbers. I know personally some making over 1 million a year net.

Small to mid-law in tristate area, 4 years, $150k. I never wanted to do BigLaw because of the hours. I work in office three days a week, home 2 and I have a super flexible schedule. Get in around 9 and leave around 4. I work from home after my kids are asleep and no one cares as long as everything gets done. I also think I have good prospects here in terms of career growth/making partner. That being said, I'll never make BigLaw money and think realistically my max is around $400k. However, I'm happy with the tradeoff of money vs. hours.

I work in house in a bank. I have around 20 years experience. I make a bit over 200k. Great lifestyle and benefits. Unfortunately I have likely hit a plateau in my career and won’t likely make any more than this. I am okay with the salary though.

Dh left biglaw and went in house a few years ago. Was just unsustainable. Too many all nighters and insane partners. But now we feel like maybe the field isn’t worth it for a man if you’re not going to go big law partner route. In house is amazing for female lawyers who are moms and are looking for life balance but the money isn’t really enough if your the main breadwinner.
