Hi all, I want to buy myself 2 or 3 new novels for upcoming post-partum period when I will have noone around for any company..
I just really hate badly written or simple novels, I'm looking for recs of really really well written, emotional novels preferably not current day based, but like good. Can you specify when you recommend the time period it's based in?

The Remains of The Day by Kazuo Ishiguro. Takes place in the 1950's, with many flashbacks to the 1920's and 30's.
A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry. Set in 1970's and 1980's India.
Life and Fate by Vasily Grossman, set during WWII.
The Wolf Hall Trilogy by Hilary Mantel, set during the reign of Henry VIII. Wolf Hall, Bring up the Bodies, The Mirror and the Light.
The Cairo Trilogy by Naguib Mahmoud, set from approximately 1919 to 1940's. Palace Walk, Palace of Desire, Sugar Street.
Not as good as the above books, but enjoyable: Pachinko by Min Jin Lee, set over decades, 1910-1989.

Ruchama King Feuerman's books. Those are more contemporary.
Freefall by Miriam Zakon (WWII). Shortchanged by E. G. Schwartz (Depression). Both US-based.
Wildlands by M. Kenan was a fun ride (mid-19th century).
Map the Starlight by Leah Gebber (early Renaissance, IIRC).
Sorry if you've read them already.

Full Harvest by Etka Gittel Schwartz about Jewish life on the prairie - great book.
The Last Slave by Y.Kormornick - novel about a Jewish woman’s experience during yetzias mitzrayim, fascinating book.

I'm really bad at remembering titles, but the last slave was amazing!
There's a trilogy about a Jewish boy being kidnapped by Indians by Rachel istrin. I really enjoyed it. She also has a holocaust novel which was good.
Shevy shottenstein, the promise of freedom was pretty good.

I personally don't go for historical, so I didn't appreciate most of the authors and books already mentioned.
I really enjoyed the Libby Klein series she wrote about the couple where he has a brain tumor. I found she touched on subjects like mental health etc that jewish authors can be afraid to.
I also enjoy Riva Pomerantz, especially postpartum where I want a nice calm read where it's all about relationships and family.
Recently I read EK Schwartz' Veiled Truth which I really enjoyed.

Leah Gebber is amazing, but can get very dark (she talks about dark parts of history in detail)
The Betrayal is one of the best books I have ever read, it is by M Kenan. It's during the times of the Khazari kingdom. There are 3 subsequent books, the Outcast, the Dark Secrets and the Final Battle. Really well written and captivating, everyone I know who has read them has really enjoyed.

My favorite book of all time is Daddy's Girl by Dina Nueman.
Also love All Fall Down by Rachel Berger.
Love love all Riva Pomerantz's books - Diamond Dust, Split Ends, Take 2... so many more that can't remember but they're all great!

Also enjoy Leah Gebber, but agree that The Betrayal series is of the best books I have ever read. I have read each one many, many times (besides for the new one), and am always amazed by the depth, emotions, and lessons in each one. Besides for the fascinating setting of inside the royal courts.
