This is not a debate over yes or no to screens. More a question of limits. Do you have time/ day limits? Any flexibility? Any difference for watching vs. Gaming? how do you cope if the reaction seems to be making screen time the most precious obsession? Alternatively if they turn grouchy from too long? Any tips and tricks welcome.

Following. So far we started the year by putting a lock on every single device so they can’t take it without permission. Setting limits though is a whole nother issue once we give them the devices.

Depends on age and what their access.

Kids only 2-3x week max 2 hours that day

Teenagers max 2-4 hours from the minute they wake up. So they use their time accordingly. It’s not unlimited

Yes my kids under 10 each get 20 minutes a day with a timer. When timer goes off, next kid gets a turn. Its mostly games and occasionally a video that I approve of. Typically they get this when I am making dinner and after dinner we move on to homework, showers and non screen activities.

My oldest almost 14 gets 45 minutes and mostly watches nerdy history videos about the roman empire.

I will add time if they do certain tasks I know they really don't want to do or I feel like they had an excellent day. They are used to the system and will try 5 more minutes etc but they respect the system over all.

We do videos after bath time in the evening, and then generally Sunday afternoons after an activity. More if a kid is sick or I am sick and less if they forget how to use their ears. My general philosophy is I don't want screen time to become a babysitter or become crutch. I also want to make sure they know there is a time and place - I.e. not while we have guests over and no technology at the table.

My kids are still relatively young, the oldest is 7 and they can't access screens without a parent turning it on. I think screens will be part of their lives and they need to know how to be around them responsibly.

School nights I limit 10 minutes per kid. Sundays and long Fridays it depends on the schedule. I aim for 30 minutes per kid. My oldest does duo lingo hebrew or I would say no computer during the week.
