My baby has a huge double chin. While its really cute and fudgy, he keeps on getting awful rashes by the neck. The only thing that seems to help is hydrocortisone cream prescribed by my pediatrician. Every time I stop using it, the rash returns. I tried different types of moisturizers and lotions but nothing helps. I also try hard to keep the area dry but my baby spits up an awful lot and its nearly impossible to always be 100% dry. I know hydrocortisone shouldn't be used long term and even my ped said to use it only when its really bad, but if I dont use it a day or two it becomes really bad again. Please share if you have experience with anything safer that actually works.

Definitely stop the cream.
She may be sensitive to soaps, lotion, laundry detergent. Possibly other allergies.

I know for sure that its not a sensitivity to anything. Its just that there's a lot of moisture in the area and it all gets trapped in the folds of his chin. I cant stop the cream without an alternative it gets really bad. I just try to do it at least every second day but I want a better solution.

Keep him in a bib the whole time. It catches the moisture and keeps it dry. You can get small triangular ones made from 100% cotton with towelling, no plastic.

Does your doctor know where you’re using the cream? You don’t usually hear of hydrocortisone in skin folds.
I’d try a diaper barrier cream and to Keep the area as dry as possible. It’s possible that it’s a fungal infection like jock itch or athletes foot. Your doc should be able to swab it to figure it out.

I do that. I have a huge stock of these bibs in my house. It's still not enough to keep him every second dry. He drools and spits up literally all day. I can go through 10 bibs a day and he still wont be dry all the time. If hes in a wet bib for half an hour the rash creeps back on. It does help but I feel like I do need some kind of ointment together with this system.

He knows hes the one that prescribed it.
He prescribed antifungal creams too when the rash was out of hand and was oozing. At this point the rash isn't fungal, itll go away completely if im aggressive with hydrocortisone but I dont want to be.

Moisturizing it is keeping it moist.
Check to see if it's fungal. And I recommend using boudreauxs butt paste.

My baby also had this cuz she's chubby and spits up a lot. She also had it under her arms and in other areas you dont need to worry about bec your baby is a boy
I used baby powder and diaper cream to get rid of the inital rash, and now I dry her very thoroughly in all crevices after the bath. She still has a very mild rash in her neck rolls but can't compare
