Electrolysis- from what age vs waxing vs laser

Dd13 needs to take care of her dark bushy eyebrows. We did waxing twice, but I'm wondering if we'd be better off doing electrolysis. The beautician claims she doesn't usually have 13 year olds doing it, usually more like 15 and up. Is there a reason why 13 year olds shouldn't do electrolysis yet? Any pros/cons? Is she old enough to consider laser?

Most of my friends started in hs but there were girls who were hairy and needed a more permanent fix and started earlier. Electrolysis really doesn’t hurt I would let her start now if it’s bothering her.
Also keep in mind if she goes to sleep away camp she might be embarrassed when it grows and she can’t go to the salon

I started dd last year when she was 12 for eyebrows and upper lip. Best thing ever she is almost done and won't have to worry about waxing. If you can afford electrolysis and will go consistently it's 100% worth it IMHO. My lady also said she doesn't really have such young girls but I think it's more because it's expensive and a huge hassle for a mom to have to bring dd every week especially in the beginning.

Also, how painful is it? Like how would you describe it?

No matter how gentle the person is it's still very painful. And I generally have a high pain tolerance but electrolysis is awful. It's not just a needle.

I use numbing cream and ask the lady to do the lowest setting and it's still painful

This is for lip I tweeze my eyebrows

laser is much more painful than Electrolysis. I don't find it painful at all.. and I have heard is better to start young in age..

the reason why its not recommended to start at 12 is because at 12 her hormones are still jumping around and the hair will grow back. the laser and electrolysis that I did at 12/13 all grew back and the laser grew back double and thicker! but the electrolysis that I did at 18 never came back...

Dd will be 14 in January. She got her period at 12 1/2 (apparently it's relevant). Would she be better off with electrolysis or waxing? (She's nervous about electrolysis and doesn't seem to mind waxing. I, on the other hand, am sensitive in my facial area and can't stand waxing but do well with electrolysis but only for random hairs growing on my chin.)

I personally find electrolysis way less painful than waxing. ask the therapist to do electrolysis on the lowest setting, hopefully she will be okay with it. waxing feels like a band-aid being ripped off the skin-ouch!!

Waxing hurts but lasts a second. Electrolysis you have to bear the pain for 20 minutes, I find it much harder. A second of electrolysis is better than a second of a wax but because it takes 20 minutes, it becomes unbearable. The eyebrows do hurt less than the upper lip. I was told no laser on the face.

Not an expert but personal experience:

I find electrolysis does hurt, although it definitely depends where (for me, upper lip is way more painful than eyebrows which is worse than chin).

As far as laser goes- I never did laser on my face but I did do it on other parts of my body using 2 different people with 2 types of machines. One hurt, a lot, but again different areas hurt more/less. The second type really didn't hurt.
Many people say no laser on the face because it stimulates the hair follicles so it can cause more hair growth as well.
(Could be other reasons too, idk.)
Some people do do laser on the face.

I wonder why you all find electrolysis so painful. Here in the UK (maybe in the US as well) we use two settings: thermolysis-which is the zap that is quite painful and kills the hair follicle and a blend of thermolysis and galvanic which is literally painless, especially if the electrologist is using an up-to-date apilus machine. for those of you who find it painful, ask for a blend treatment next time instead of thermolysis (although for more stubborn hairs it might not be as effective).

P.S. I am knowledgeable in this area as I just finished my electrolysis training, but in regard to the pain I speak from personal experience. Literally tiny pokes but no terrible pain during my treatments!

I am very hairy and started with electrolysis at age 14. For someone with a lot of hair I would never start waxing especially the upper lip. Once u start with waxing it keeps growing and she can never be without a wax every 3 weeks forever and ever. Whereas electrolysis is an investment for life. In the beginning you need to go more often, after that I started other areas since I was hairy, did eyebrows, sideburns and chin. It was the best thing I did since as a busy mother bh who has time every 4 weeks to keep going. By the time I was 18 I probably went every couple of months and like by 20 I go every year or two to maintain.
I have an 11 year old daughter who definitely is hairy but I'm not sure I would start so young. Maybe at 13..
Regarding the pain as my grandmother used to say, beauty hurts! Happens to be it was manageable.
