It’s not uncommon. My oldest is 14 I just dealt with it this year for the first time and it was multiple times. I count myself lucky.

Very normal and common in Israel, less so in the US (my personal experience)

Very common in preschool age. And can be very hard to get rid of because many people don’t understand the importance of proper handwashing.

I think it's more common in Israel. Very common here. Maybe because of the warm weather, kids playing in the dirt more, maybe more crowded classrooms?

I've only had recurrent issues when I've had major obsessive thumb/ finger suckers. I definitely find that when I get lax about washing linen weekly things flare up out of control. I Cook with lots of garlic and am happy to humor those kids craving spicy foods. The more the merrier.

I’m in the us, I have 4 kids. 3 kids have never had it, one child get it 4-6 times a year. I have no explanation. My DH is a physician and twice in the last 2 months friends have called that their kid is waking and night crying without any obvious reason and both times it turned out to be pinworms. One mom walked her kid over to our home on Friday night and dh ask me to check her (didn’t want to make the girl uncomfortable) and the worms were SWARMING!! it was soooo gross!!!

I’m so jealous of all of u who have never dealt with it! There’s a lot of you!! I thought it was something basically anyone with little
Kids has to deal with.. guess I’m just one of the “lucky ones” for the record we are very clean and hygienic (before anyone suggests otherwise)

Depends on the kid for me.
I have one kid that used to get it ALL the time.

And another that never had it.
But it’s definitely not uncommon.

I've only ever heard about it on this site.

But also, this is the only place I've ever heard of hygiene issues that people don't think are issues, which likely is the cause of some (NOT ALL, don't come after me) of the pinworms cases. There are a lot of people who've said on this site they don't wash their hands well, or with soap, or at all, after using the bathroom. There are people on this site who've said they don't keep soap in their bathrooms. People who don't think you need to wash hands.... and then wonder why their kid has pinworms.

Don't let anyone convince you you're not clean! It happens. Maybe lots of people who do have in house often aren't answering or maybe many people aren't even aware that their family is a breeding ground...just like lice people can unfortunately get used to living with it. It's clean put together people who ocd do everything they can to get rid of it

Of course we wash our hands! And have soap! But I should watch that judgement. U think ur kids are washing their hands so perfectly in school when ur not there I have a bridge to sell you ive worked as a therapist in many schools and past the small preschool age when the Morah’s are really supervising, prob majority of the kids don’t properly wash their hands if at all. The boys especially I. Like first grade when they go themselves to the bathroom? Forget it.

Depends on the kid for me too. Some don't even know what it is and some that get a few times a year.

As common as it is, there are some kids that are definitely more susceptible than others.
