If we know each other from 20 years ago and the only messages I ever get from you (repeatedly) are generic ones wanting me to donate to your niche cause, you’re getting blocked.
I don’t like getting annoying notifications, even if I try to archive that little 1 is annoying.

Omg yes! I have a contact who won’t greet me on the street but sends the same “friendly” invite to her taedaka party every year.

YES! I have facebook friends and whatsapp contacts who never go on fb, or never contact me on whatsapp or even smile at me at the grocery store who have no busha pming me when it's gofundme or fundraiser time. Nope.

Your title is mildly misleading. I thought you were going to warn against fundraising scams posted on this platform, which is why I opened this thread.
Your gripe isn't about WhatsApp fundraising per se, but about tangential acquaintances pretending to be friends when they want something from you, in this case a contribution to their pet cause. The plug could just as well be coming in an email, snail mail, phone call, text, skywriting or smoke signal, not necessarily WhatsApp.
But I agree with your gripe. Who wouldn't? No one likes "friends" who have zip to do with you except when they want something from you.

To be fair, they are forwarding to their entire whatsapp contact list. I doubt it's a personal message

Realistically, the fundraisers cannot maintain hundreds of genuine friendships. Would you prefer the person text you randomly, such as before Yom Tov, to keep a connection so you feel more inclined to donate? It always feels so fake and transparent to me when people do that. What's the solution?

To maybe not solicit from people you happened to have known decades ago?

Every time there's an online or neighborhood argument about the internet, I play my righteous 'but it can be used for good causes' card. So here's me using it for a good cause. yes, super annoying, but I make sure to take this as a generic advertisement for Tzedaka and am grateful for the opportunity to give, even if small amounts.
