I haven't been on imamother for over a year now but I had a question that I realized this whould be the best place to ask it
im a preschool teachers assistent for five years and this year I was put with a new teacher who never taught preschool. how do I give her ideas without feeling like im taking over? she seems so lost and I want to help but then I feel guilty for not giving her a chance? im feeling fusterated and overwhelmed.
she is a great person and we seem to get along great and I dont want to overstep my place . any ideas?

ask her bluntly if she minds if you offer advice at times. tell her you want her to tell you what your boundaries are, based on the fact that you have a little more experience, even if she's the main teacher.

I would probably find some things she's doing well and compliment her on them--"that was such a creative activity! the kids loved it!" b/c she's probably worrying that you're not very impressed with her. Then later, after I'd been complimenting her for a few days, I'd start offering suggestions for things that aren't going well, but only in a friendly, offhand manner. I'd definitely make her feel like you "blame" the class rather than her--"wow, we really got some rowdy kids this year, didn't we? you know, a few years ago I had a class that had a hard time settling down too. we did ____________________ and it really helped them learn routines. I don't know if you want to give that a try, but I just thought that maybe that would help the kids this year too."
Hatzlacha! I really feel for the teacher, b/c I was in her shoes once.
