I don't like the word allowance for a spouse. We have a general budget and a shared mindset. No consultation on everyday purchases or small extras. Anything outside of that in the hundreds ranges or more, yes we discuss.

We have a monthly budget. If either of us needs to make a larger then usually purchase, we consult with each others.

I have been a SAHM for years and purchase whatever I please.
obviously I know our finances and try to be reasonable but I do not have an allowance
I do not consult spouse unless its a major purchase
Working or not it makes no difference.A marriage is an partnership

Same. It’s a household budget. Large purchases by either spouse is a discussion.

I agree.
I am not a SAHM but I work part-time and earn significantly less than DH. We both make sure to shop responsibly but neither of us has an “allowance.”

I have a designated cc that I use for everyday purchases for the household. I try to keep it to a certain amount per month and shop accordingly. We have a separate designated card for food. Then we have cash on hand for things that require cash. They’re usually routine and I text dh each time I take so he can write it down. If I want to make a big purchase outside of that we discuss it.
He takes care of all other bills.
And no he doesn’t discuss big purchases with me (unless he’s just sharing), since he’s in charge of the finances.
