If there is a kametz under the ches and a yud afterwards, doesn't the sound change to chai? It should be Bar Yochai.
I think about this every year and wonder if there's a reason for it.

I'm not talking about havara. I know chassidish havara.
I'm talking about the rules of kriah.
Even in chassidish havara, if a yud follows a kamatz, the sound changes to "oy".
Maybe this is different because there's an aleph in between.

I'm seeing that some versions have a kamatz and some have a pasach under the ches.
I thought there may be a kabbalistic reason why they pronounce it differently, similar to Yisachar/Yisaschar. Anyone know?

It's יוחאי with an aleph betwen the ches and the yud so it isn't chai. It's cho-ee
