One thing I have learned that when making a simcha you have to account for "5 things to go wrong"--so that when things happen, you know it was "part of the plan".
Even with the best of plans, something will go wrong. I had people coming, not coming, then coming, then not coming, then different family coming the week of our bar mitzvah last year. People kept asking for "my numbers" --and I wasn't sure what to tell them.
I was planning to get to shul "on time" to help with set-up. My youngest son got a massive and sudden bloody nose while I was getting him dressed the morning of the bar mitzvah that didn't want to clot, it took almost an hour to get it under control. I ended up getting to shul about 10 minutes before leining. If would have missed it, I never would've forgiven myself. It was stressful but I made it.
So yea, things happen.
