I just found out my 7 yo and 5 yo sons have been peeing purposely on the floor of their room (carpeted). Idk how long this has been going on, but I suspect the past year. Their room smells, but I always suspected night time accidents and I have even posted on here tips to get the smell out here. We are going to remove the carpet obviously, but I am horrified. Why would they be doing this? They say they dared each other, but I know this cannot be normal. Anyone ever go through this?? How do I make sure it never happens again?

Put in washable tile that you can see wetness on. This should discourage them.

Boys tend to think peeing is hysterical. At those ages, hygiene is usually not a priority. They got away with it once, so why not for a whole year?

I think a carpet cleaner with pet stain remover should take care of it.

Yes that is the plan. I am just so disgusted by the behavior.
It makes me feel like a failure if a parent.

I hear that you're horrified, but honestly if this was my kids (I also have 2 young boys) I wouldn't be that shocked. Little boys are crazy!!

I would ask them, where did they learn to do this? Was it from other kids?
Next I would tell them that this was complete inappropriate behavior and now it is their job to keep their new carpet clean.
Start by showing them how to clean the toilet and bathroom. Get some mild toilet spray cleaner and scrub brush and supervise accordingly.
Also your dh needs to address this situation as well.

Ive cleaned the carpet many time and it still smells.
It was just crazy. I literally just saw my son pass the bathroom go to the corner of his room and pee. By himself! Like it was the most normal thing in the world!

Don't. As they say... boys will be boys!
It's not on you.
I'm sorry about the carpet. That is pretty gross.
Iy"H one day they'll be all grown up and you'll all look back and laugh.

We have done all that. And they already have spray and cleaning supplies in the bathroom.
My dh has spoken to them as well.
Thank you.

This is not the same but just another gross pee story, when we got married my husband always peed in the sink. I was horrified that is beyond gross, there’s a toilet for a reason! BH once I told him that it is not normal he stopped.

Did he explain why? Why did he think it was normal.
