My grandmother asked me to help her find a gown for my cousin’s wedding. I am great at helping friends find clothing but I’m not sure that I know what to look for. My grandmother never ever wears anything waisted. (She says she’s short and fat but all I see is deliciousness, I lover her!) She has been having a hard time with balance lately so a heavy gown is probably not a good idea. I really want to help her look her best! She always puts everyone else before her.
Can anyone help with suggestions?

You sound like a wonderful granddaughter! My cousin and I were married a few months apart and my grandmother was in her 80s at that time. She wore a chiffon dress that was very pretty and had light fabric. The key was to make the hem a little higher so that she would not trip. My grandmother was taller than you describe, but she was fuller in the waist and bust.
Here's a dress from Zappos on sale with sequins. Not sure if that's bubby's style or it it will be heavy, but it is fully covered and the pattern will help give some definition to her waist. It has stretch in it.

I would recommend shopping online at Zappos, which has a liberal return policy. Otherwise, if you are near a Nordstrom, contact their personal shopping department so you only have to shlep her there once and describe what you need in terms of color, shape, style, and size. They are really helpful and there is no pressure to buy or special charges. They can also help you get alterations. I bought my mother of the bride dress there from Tadashi and it was great. I would look for Alex Evenings, Adrianna Papell. They have lots of styles and choices. Some might need a little altering depending on the tznius requirements and her height.
Good luck and mazal tov on the wedding.

[quote="amother Oak"]What's the budget?
I don’t think she wants to spend more than $650.
