Does this happen with everyone or just with me? Whenever theres an occasion that someone would give me a gift, the gifts that I get are gifts for my son. Does anyone else not get gifts for themselves, but rather, on their special occasions, their gifts go to their children?

You mean it's my birthday but Nati gets a present instead of me?
Um... no, that hasn't happened. Although this past year by husband bought himself something for my birthday.
That doesn't usually happen though.

For sure. I like it that way. Of course within reason. It's not good for a kid (especially when they get older) to see everything for you goes to them either.

On rereading, I am not sure if you meant that is what you want, or rather that is just what happens. If you dont like it, then stop it!

I understand the question. Like if someone comes to your house for shabbos and gets ds a toy rather then something nice for you? Usually dc isn't the one getting the gift. It's either for the house or for the adults.

Well, it depends.
Usually, people make a disctinction, and bring some chocolates for me and maybe a small toy for my daughter. But since she´s a baby, she doesn´t see that she gets something "everytime". we don´t have so much visits either.
When my in-laws were there, they live really far away, in Chile, so when they come to Germany, they visit friends they don´t see so often, obviously. One couple of these friends had a young boy, and they wanted to bring something for him, so I gave them I plaything that I got myself as a present but didn´t want my child to use.
My in-laws always try to do things right, so usually when they´re invited somewhere they bring along a cake or a bottle of wine too. The gift for the kid was something nice, extra, maybe to elicit conversation too, who knows...
