What do the seminaries write for rejection and what - for waitlisted?
If it only says Pending, is it rejection? For waitlisted, does it always mention being put on the waitlist?
Does the wording depend on the seminary?

“We regret to inform you that we were unable to accept your daughter” equals rejected.

“You’ve been placed on a waiting list” equals waitlist or pending. Could still get in.

They are two different things.

Please note, I do not mean that your daughter is a reject. I went through this with my daughters over 10 years ago.

You can call it rejected or not accepted. Either way it just means they will not be taking her into the seminary next year.

Doesn’t mean anything about your daughter as a person.

This whole process is very difficult, but it does prepare you for the fun chapter of shidduchim:)

Thank you.
"You've been placed on our pending list of applicants".
A nice way to say not accepted or a waitlist?

Right, this is a different one. No mention to contact to be waitlisted. Rejection?
I feel so stupid asking what should be very clear, but here I am lolol

We got one that says "your application status is pending." Any time a letter says pending or waitlist, whether it tells you to email or not, it's good to be in touch with the school to let them know your dd would very much still like to be considered. And then you work any pull you have if you have any, including prinicipal calls, your rav or one you know, etc.

Sounds like the same as waitlist to me. Which could mean anything at this point. Ask your school to call and see what kind of chance your daughter has

So, pending and waitlisted are interchangeable in your opinion?

I would think pending means they haven’t yet made a decision. Based on the normal definition of pending. I’m not sure why they chose to use that word because it makes the email very unclear.

This is what I got when I applied to seminary (lots of years ago). I got in two weeks later, round 2.

I think that pending and waitlist is interchangeable. It means that the seminary is expecting a certain amount of spots to open up once the girls who received more than one acceptance make their decisions. Basically they want your daughter but dont have an open spot for her. It doesnt guarantee acceptance, especially if the seminary is a popular one, but there are still chances she will get in.
You should anyway call the seminary and her mechaneches asap.

Pending and wait list mean the same thing. Different places use different words.

If its your first choice (or best option), now's the time to work really hard to get in on round 2. Every seminary ends up taking at least one student from the wait list.

I got in nowhere first round and everywhere second round thanks to my parents' efforts.

Thanks, everyone!
What wording do they use in rejection letters?

In my experience the wording makes no difference. Why not say waitlist to make the girl feel better about herself.

What does "high priority wait list" mean?

Is it a better chance ?

Uch. So poorly worded. High priority wait lists are for people in a more urgent situation than others (for the service or good being offered)

‘Top of the wait list’ is much better.

Sounds like it, but oh gosh, do they really need to divide waitlisted girls even further, into higher and lower priorities?

We got one “pending” list and one “high pending” list. I had assumed the high pending list meant a better chance

Update:
Pending list for this seminary was a rejection. It's ok, but that's an odd choice of words...
