Oatmeal in recipe

When a recipe calls for oatmeal (not oats), what does it mean? Other recipes say "oats" so I know that it's not asking for regular oats. Thanks!

oatmeal is oats. it jsut d oesn't meant the quick cooking kind.

oatmeal = oats

although there is also ground oats - finer texture

in most dishes that are going to be cooked or baked you can interchange quick-cooking and old-fashioned (cooks in 5 minutes) oats.
Green is correct, oats and oatmeal are the same thing. HO calls it oatmeal, Quaker calls it oats.

Many people call the cereal "oatmeal" rather than "oats" b/c the form fed to horses is also called "oats".

I usually use the quick cooking but once bought the regular by mistake but it made no difference.
