What Torah are you learning for Yom Hazikaron?

Today, we remember the fallen.

What Torah will you learn as an Aliyah for their neshamot? I hereby commit to three chapters of Melachim I, and as much of Yeshayahu as I can get through.

Let's make this day meaningful, so we need never mark another Yom Hazikaron in sadness.

Kol Hakavod to you.

That's a better idea than just being sad, which I am.

I'm a bereaved friend; my dear friend Genia Berman was killed in a bus bombing in 2003. I still miss her every day.

I'm so sorry for your loss,Grace. I wish I could give you a hug.

I just finished the first few chapters of Melachim, and the Me'am Loez goes into detail about the preparations David made before he passed from the world, and on the Jewish perspective of death. There was a lot of depth in his reflections; you may find chizzuk there.

This is the link to Genia's story. She was a very special person.

I shared this on the Sirens thread.

It's by Rabbi Shay Shachter (son of Rav Hershel, shlita) on Yom Hazikaron and parshas Kedoshim. It's just over 20 minutes long.
