Can I make red cabbage salad by buying a full cabbage and slicing it thinly?
These shredded cabbage bags cost 3.49$ for 8 Oz pks! $7 just for the cabbage is expensive?
Has anyone done this before? I'm just thinking it might not be good if I do that

Yes. That's how cabbage salad was made before they started selling ready shredded cabbage.
Nowadays people choose the shredded version because of the issue with tolaim. So that's the only reason why it wouldn't be done. But my mother and SIL always make purple cabbage salad from whole heads of cabbage and they slice it up themselves
