I am thinking of going to a furrier to line my puffer jacket with fur.
Rabbit fur seems inexpensive, but would it keep me as warm as a more expensive fur?
Anyone have personal experience with different types of fur ?

Teddy bear fur has worked wonders for me in the past. When I have gotten around to lining my puffer jacket.

I believe rabbit fur sheds a lot. It's not fun having fur all over your clothes.
Ask the furrier for a recommendation.

Yes. My rabbit fur vest that I wore today sheds a lot.

Ok, I get it. Rabbit fur sheds. But does it keep you toasty? Toastier than down/duck/feathers?
How about fox fur? (Not faux fur)

Glad to hear they are warmer. Don't need it long term, as I will be moving back to Fla. in a year or two.

Rabbit won't keep you warmer than a good down jacket.
IMO rabbit fur is a bit juvenile. It's what little girls used to get as a jacket.
If it's warmth you are after, a good down jacket that is wind resistant will keep you as warm as any fur. If it's status you're after, rabbit fur certainly doesn't have the cachet of sable or mink.
Sheepskin is a very warm. I had a full length one with a hood as well as an embroidered jacket from Cepelia which I really loved. My cousins and I were all gifted with muskrat coats when we graduated college which were bought from a family friend when there was still a fur district :-)
There are very high quality faux fur coats now (I think Daniel Basso makes some) which are very warm and relatively inexpensive.

I'm quite surprised at all the negative opinions regarding rabbit fur.
I have a rain and shine coat that's lined with rabbit fur and have had only great experiences with it.
Great protection especially during 'ice cold' weathers!
Extremely warm and cozy.
I bought it in Canada apr 10 years ago and have been wearing it every winter since.
I don't have any experience of it shedding at all, even after ten years.

If you have a toasty down feather jacket that's warm on its own, and you add rabbit fur as lining, of course your jacket will be so much warmer!

I have a rabbit fur coat and it was shedding when I first bought it. I gave it in to a furrier to de-shed. They basically put it through some machine. It never shedded since then.

oops...I thought this thread was a joke, hence my comments. I apologize if I made anyone feel bad. I had no idea about furs and that people did things like this. I have learned something new here.

Sounds like an expensive proposition (and I am leaving aside the ethical issues of using fur).
What about wearing thermal or silk undershirts? Keeps you warm without adding much bulk (and doesn't involve killing bunnies ).

I didnt realize people are still wearing furs! No one I know would dream of it. Yes most people around here still wear leather shoes, but fur coats are just such an obvious screaming statement of cruelty.
I would not buy real down either, for the same reason (although that isnt as in your face as real fur).

On another note, is real fox fur as warm as mink? Warmer than rabbit fur?
