I'm expecting twins IY"H who are also my 1st.
I am planning to tandem nurse them and am wondering when I should start.
I will have help in the 1st weeks, so should I take advantage of that help and nurse them separately or the opposite - use the help to get used to tandem nurse them?
Is it even possible to tandem nurse newborns?
Thank you!

Since its ur first U hv a lot of adjustments to get used to one being you baby or babies in ur case and second the nursing. Nursing ain't easy. It will take some time to get the hang of it so U will definitely have to get used to nursing one at a time first. When you feel U mastered that you can try to tandem feed which is an art of its own!
I started to tandem feed at around 8 weeks but couldn't manage it. I tried again at a later time and it was better.
Don't push yourself, do it at your own pace! Good luck!
PS I assume you got urself a twin nursing pillow...

I would get started tandem nursing as soon as possible, it will make it all soooo much easier. I started already the first day in the hospital, but they were not my first. One of the reasons I did start then, though, was to utilize the help of the nurses to get them both on at the same time and to help me get the hang of the whole tandem thing. I also had a night nurse for a just a couple nights after they came home, and I had her help while they were latching as well. I didn't have a twin nursing pillow, but that would have helped tremendously.

Thanks for your responses!
I did get a twin nursing pillow. I will try to tandem nurse them ASAP, right after we're all comfortable with the art of nursing.

It took me longer with my twins, because they were smaller than my other babies. Smaller babies tend to need more help with latching, and it was harder to tandem (I had to hold them in place so they wouldn't fall off the latch, but I needed two hands to help them latch to begin with). It didn't take them long though, and we even did tandem lying down!! (Not all the time, only when both woke up in the middle of the night, but it made me sleep MUCH better.)
