Looking to get a convertible carseat/booster for my toddler (boy). Need recommendation for one that's easy to install and not too expensive. TIA!

We've been happy with the Graco Nautilus.

That is NOT a convertible!!
Miami, how big is your son? What vehicle do you have, and with what other car seats? How long do you plan on using it for vs passing it down? What is your budget? Do you have LATCH anchors in that seat, or would you be installing via a buckle? How long do you plan on rear facing for?

I thought convertible meant that it changes from a 5-point harness to a high-back booster to a backless booster. Am I wrong?

A combination can be used as a 5 pt harness to a booster (not necessarily backless). A convertible can switch from backwards to forwards

I thought so too, and have one, till I spent hours finding one that fits next to it in a 3 across situation So if you think that may happen before it expires, I'd look into other options.

Thanks, the Nautilus was exactly what I had in mind. I'm looking for something that my 2y/o can eventually use as a booster. We have a non-LATCH minivan, so space isn't currently an issue. I ordered it today. Thanks!

Thank you MBV
Space wasn't an issue back when I got mine either. However, it has 2 years left, and it's a big issue now. I just spent quite a bit of money to get the "right" seat because I bought it. The Maestro is skinnier but wasn't on the market in my days. Frontier 85 also, though that's more expensive. I'd probably look at the Safety First Go Hybrid if I was on the market for a FF only seat now.

While that video is quite compelling, rear facing just isn't always practical. We made the decision to turn our toddler around just before taking a long trip and realized our child (who would be restless in the car) wouldn't survive the trip rear facing. Often I'm in the car as the only adult and it's very hard to give something to a rear facing toddler in those mammoth car seats.
HaShem is the Shomer Yisroel. He protects us from driveway to destination and back. We do our part by protecting our children in car seats, we daven, we say tefillas Haderech, and have bitachon that He will help us. I know a family who recently had their big family van roll-over and NO ONE was hurt--including a toddler who was forward-facing.
I asked for car seat recommendations please don't offer mussar shmuessen.

Sorry, it wasn't intended to be a mussar shmooze. You asked for the best car seat, so I steered you toward the best.
