My 5 year old child walked home alone today!!!

The one doing pick up accidently was 15 minutes late, my son was left alone in school by himself, so he walked home alone!! What would you do? This is the situation, there is no responsibility especially on Sunday!! How do you get the school to have a responsibility that if a parent is late to call them up etc. Im just so upset, the teacher had to leave, so no blame there, the principal is surprised so no blame there so who is at fault? I need advice!!!

I don't care if the teacher had to catch a plane, you don't leave a 5 year old alone!

I had that happen to my daughter last year!

She goes to a girls event once a week...and the parents arrange rides..

This particular day it was a new parent, and she left my daughter at school..

My daughter walked Sad

OH I was sooo ANGRY!

B"H IT NEVER HAPPENED AGAIN then again, this year I drive to the girl's event every time..

amother I can't get over your story!
in our school they have a system, if the younger kids don't get picked up on time they are taken into the after care program. 5 year olds aren't alowed to be left on their own, they are BABIES!

I would kick up a stink if I were you, I don't care if you live down the block from the school, I wouldn't be letting a 5 yr old walk out alone, not even next door, but even besides that it was completely irresponsible for the teacher to leave the child alone. thats unheard of in our schools in oz.

btw I live about 3 blocks away, 4 streets to cross!! The problem is there is no system and the teachers dont get payed for after time, and out of kindness she stays extra 10 minutes there... so its not her "problem", its the system so its about changing the system how do u go about that??

omg I would be so mad I don't know what I'd do. I would definetly call the principal and loudly complain, but I might even consider taking my kid out of the school since they obviously don't prioritize the safety of the children....

We do pick up, but sometimes a parent can be delayed for whatever reason

Teachers are human too and if every day only one parent is late, she will always have to wait around.

Do you know how they solve it in my son's gan here? If no-one comes to collect a child after the end of the day the teacher, or helper, takes the child to their home. I think it is a great idea. The child is safe, the teacher doesn't stay late and the parent has to do some running around to find his/her child. It happened to me once or twice when I was genuinely running late and, do you know what? I wasn't late again for any reason.

When I had carpool situations with "neglectful" parents I stopped carpooling - simple. However once way back when my son was 7 I had 104 temp and couldn't move and I kept calling dif people to get my son on a sunday - nobody would bring him home. After too many of those calls I simply called the principal and told him that I expected him to make sure my son got home - period. After that I never sent my son to school on sundays there could it made me so frustrated. Then we switched schools. Obviously not for that reason alone but for several put together. There was no discipline on the buses either.

I would have a complete and total FIT if that would happen to my five year old!!!

Over here we have bus transportation, and, similar to what shalhevet wrote, if the parent is not waiting outside to get the kid off the bus he is either taken back to school (with supervision) or to the teacher's house, or whatever.

I dont get it. Where did they leave the child? outside, in the hallway, in the classroom? Was there nobody left in the building? Why didn't the teacher just bring him into the office?

the same thing happened to my niece who lives in florida=
she walked home alone , when she was five.
