my dd has noticed the "smell", and especially because she's still really young and just starting all these hormonal changes I'd like to find her a good anti perspirant without too many of the harmful chemicals and aluminum. she's already tried the Tom's of Maine deoderant, and tells me " it smells like the two smells are fighting each other" which to me means she needs an anti perspirant, not just deoderant...any reccomendations? thanks!

She said without chemicals etc. I use naturally fresh from Whole Foods. You could take her to select her own in Whole Foods.

Axe does not have antiperspirant. I agree with above poster, take her somewhere and let her pick one she likes the smell of.

There are lots that say they contain no perfume or alcohol. Is that what you mean? Good for you for starting her on it at the right time. Too many parents ignore the need in preteen kids.

thanks.. I'm mostly worried about the aluminum content, and the ones that have chemicals, some chemicals are known to disrupt endocrine functions (like the reproductive system) I'm not a total health nut, and I do understand that sometimes the thing that REALLY works may contain some of these ingredients, I'd just like to try to limit it in someone so young..that's why we tried Toms of Maine, but clearly isn't working for her...

Do you have a Whole Foods store near you? They have a whole bunch of brands, all without aluminum (and other harsh chemicals like parabens, etc.)

There is a deodorant thread in the natural parenting forum - check it out.

Arm and Hammer makes one w/o aluminum or parabens, it has a fresh pleasant smell and works pretty well. I got it at Target IIRC.

It does, but I think it's just the spray.

Kiss my Face in lavender. Whatever you do don't buy the scent desert pachouli, or something like that. It smells gosh-awful, much worse than sweat.

It works pretty okay, not as good as the real stuff with aluminum. SIGH. There is another similar thread in the natural forum and you can get good ideas from there.

And - good for you on raising a daughter with such a high level of awareness of the dangers of chemicals in personal care products!!

Melaleuca also has a deoderant with antipersperant, but it's a solid (and gets onto clothes).
