Was thinking possibly pans of baked ziti and salad. Need quantity ideas.

I would make 2 pans of pasta- one baked ziti and maybe one fettucini...2 salads, an israeli salad and a ceasar salad. assortment of fresh rolls, fruit and cookies.

Am I correct to assume it's going to be a milky meal then?
Are you planning to serve other items aside from just baked ziti and salad?

Eggs are inexpensive source of protein. You can make a few different types of quiches
or fritattas.

Are you going to be serving mezze/appetiser style foods? Warm pita wedges, hummous,
dips, maybe falafels? Vegetable crudite with dips?

Another easy, inexpensive but impressive-looking dish is a grilled vegetable platter.
Slice courgettes, aubergines, fennels (optional), red onions, and grill SEPARATELY.
Also make roasted red and yellow peppers. Serve each veggies in sections on a foil platter.

it depends on the crowd. if this is 20 women, I'd go for a falafel buffet. falafel, lettuce salad, israeli salad, hummus, tehina, sauerkraut, pita, fruit platter.

for men, I'd do honey mustard chicken wings (mix equal parts honey and mustard, smother chicken in it, bake until somewhat crispy), baked squash/blanched string beans, salad, french fries/roasted potato wedges, fruit.

if it's mixed, it depends on the ratio of men to women. I've done the wings thing for a gathering of dh's friends and their wives. only three wives were there, and we were all ok with eating messy wings. if it were mostly women or half women, I'd stick to the falafel menu.

This is a simple party--a birthday party. I'm serving food b/c it will be during dinnertime--but most ppl may eat dinner at home.
Mix of men and women, few kids. I have a cake. I was planning pasta dishes, salad, nosh, rolls, drinks. Anything else?

Do you have anyone coming who is lactose intolerant? I usually make an inexpensive fish option for people who won't eat pasta. The easiest is baked gefilte fish. I put 2 loaves of defrosted gefilte fish in a pan, chop some veggies around it (onion, zucchini, mushrooms, carrots, whatever I have around), pour tomato sauce on top, lightly sprinkle some spices on top (salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder), add 1/4 cup of dry white wine if I have some in the fridge, then bake covered for an hour at 350, and uncovered for another 30 minutes.

Regarding lactose intolerance--I dont think so. This party is more about ppl than the food. Im trying to be a considerate host--but I'm not a restaurant.

Are blitzes a good suggestion?

blintzes would be a good idea, but are a bit expensive--dont have time to make. Again I don't think in this situation lactose intolerance is an issue. Maybe I'll just have some tuna salad.
