Do you wear Eye Make-up??
I heard that one of the reasons the Bais Hamikdosh was Chorov was because the women applied blue to their eyes -Anyone else hear about it?
I wear eye-liner and sometimes subtle eye shadow for Simchas and for Best. I don't wear attractive colors and am wondering if it falls into the same category as in those days of the Beis Hamikdosh.

I really doubt that it does.
Do you see Rebbetzin's that you respect wearing eye-makeup? I do all the time. I can't imagine that so many of them are doing something wrong.

the bait hamikdash was nechrav becuase of senat chenam.
you can blame a lot of faux paux on blue eyshadow, but I doubt the churban is one of them.

Sinas Chinam is not the only reason the BHMK was destroyed.

There has gota be more to the story, was blue makeup known as some kind of seducing method?
Where did you see or hear this?

Maybe because blue eye shadow is the typical Egyptian make up.

A Jewish woman is allowed to be beautiful. I was taught in seminary that we should be attractive, not attracting.

Shayna I wish I'd remember where I saw or heard it .
I will try to find out though.
I anyway don't like sharp colors on the eyes, I think it takes away from the natural look.

are you sure she didn't wear blue "circled" in black? The blue (lapis lazzuli) they used had a "god/goddess" signification and I'm sure she wouldn't have ommitted to wear it, as she considered herself an incarnation of Isis LOL

If I'm not mistaken I heared what you learned, it was in Nach, and had nothing to do with the bhmk, rather perhaps the downfall of a particular navi or king.
I can't quote from anywhere, bc I did learn it a little while ago.
The women wore it as a seducing method, and not for being beautiful.
They also wore perfume between their shoes and soles so when they would walk, nice smells would come out (also a seducing method).

Blossom, are you sure you arent taking things out of context?
jewish women were always encouraged to make themselves beautiful...think of the kior in the bais hamikdash which was made from the same mirrors that the women in Egypt used to seduce their husbands with....think of all the women in Tanach who were described as beautiful...
Could it be that the eye makeup you're quoting was used inappropriately, for illicit behavior, etc and those sins that resulted contributed to the destruction of the Temple?
I cannot believe that pretty colorful eye makeup worn by married Jewish women can in any way have anything wrong with it, unless it's totally trampy!

im not exactly sure what the context was but I do recall learning in nach that the beis hamikdash was destroyed because the women wore eye makeup. for some reason I remember the expression"puch einaiyim ", I will try to locate the exact source and context

I'm just inquiring about something I've heard, and if others heard it too.

I've heard that eye shadow is not allowed because it is an unusual thing IOW... Blush enhances your slightly pink cheeks, same with lipstick. Even mascara just colors what you already have But blue eyeshadow is unnatural and just used to attract.

According to that theory then Blusher is used to enhance cheeks and contour, mascara is more alluring imo then eye shadow itself.Lipstick if one stays in the natural colors I would agree but what about bright red bright pinks etc. And why blue eyeshadow what about pink, grey browns or black eye shadow. those r allowed when usually there is nothing on top of lid
