Thanks for the props, Yummy2. Maybe we'll do a chulent for Shabbos, that's easy. Definitely buying the desserts. Although I do have a very simple chocolate pie recipe I could make if DH would buy me a pie crust.
Right now I'm sad that he left building the sukkah for tonight after the kids are in bed. Usually I do it with the kids but I don't have the strength.

You can call the grocery to deliver a pie crust if you realy want to make it with the kids. See what you can use a case of, tissues, seltzer ect, they'll deliver that case plus the crust

ra_mom,
I think you posted somewhere that you can add different things to rice before the meal so they will be different side dishes.
What ideas do you have in mind?
I've done things like add raisins and cinnamon
but most of the time when I make a rice dish I add all the additions while cooking. My DH loves rice so this would be fantastic.

I've done things like add raisins and cinnamon
but most of the time when I make a rice dish I add all the additions while cooking. My DH loves rice so this would be fantastic. | What I did for Yom Tov, was saute onion and fresh mushrooms. Seasoned very generously with salt and pepper to taste. Then froze in a Ziploc bag.
I also cooked Uncle Benz rice (not sticky) plain, according to package directions. Then rinsed it, and drained it very well (not just a minute, for a bit) in a collander. Dizzled with just a bit of oil and mixed well. Froze that in a separate Ziploc bag.
Combined the two (defrosted) on YT in a disposable pan. Placed into another disposable pan of water (doubler boiler) on the plata. Covered tightly and heated through. Adjusted seasoning to taste (if necessary.)
It was delicious.
You can do that with any other sauteed vegetables.
Or saute onion and garlic, add cooked lentils and season with cumin and salt.
Or use wild rice. After rinsing and draining, before freezing, season with onion powder, garlic powder, brown sugar, salt and pepper to taste. Freeze. Then add craisins when reheating.
Anything you usually do with rice really. Just add the seasonings after cooking and/or before reheating.
Rice stays fresher on it's on without additives.
You can also store these separately in the fridge, if not cooking in advance, but before YT.
