Oy...guests during a sick week isn't easy! Refuah Shelaima!

As for me, even if I keep it simple I need to make sure the kids have what to eat. If it was just DH and I it would be a different story.

Wow you people are making so much! I am finally pulling everything, but everything, out of the big chometz freezer, dh said that we should finally use up stuff labeled May 2010, right?! Oy!

So friday night we have (bought) challah, (bought) chumus, meat (labeled summer 2010...early summer...), fresh baked potatoes as my stove is pesachdig already and that's all I can bake in it, right?!, chicken soup (labeled January 2011) and for those who don't want, vegetable soup (from two weeks ago freezer). Tomorrow challah kugel from last week's leftover challah (frozen, defrosted), baked chicken (no label, I don't even want to think what year it's from, if we are alive after shabbos I will post how it went).

Dessert is a story.
I'm tying to come up with something good for the seder. So I took a recipie from here for chewy mocha cookies but it came out too loose for cookies and I made a cake out of it. Very very dense cocoa. The kids didn't like it, dh did. They suggested less cocoa. This morning as it is all pesachdig, and I have one pesach counter and ingredients, I whipped up three possibilities. One with half the amount of cocoa of the original, one with a quarter cocoa, one with an eighth cocoa and with a bit of coffee. This morning dh and one of the kids tried it. The 1/8 cocoa is awful, the quarter cocoa was eaten with the question of whether it wasn't actuall a brocho levatolo and the only one halfway normal but only halfway was the half cocoa. So...will have to try 3/4 cocoa next time in a few days...or whatever. Anyhow whatever is left over from the taste tests will be dessert.

End of shabbos. If you are hungry eat challah. We have lots of challah for shabbos. I warned everyone that next week the starch is...challah. Anyhow as we just went only daylight savings time and no one wants to eat heavy at 9 PM I think we will end up having soup with bits of chicken in it to be yotze, and challah and that's that on friday nite.

Oy, I just realized I need seuda shlishit (shaleshudis) as it's too late for melaveh malkah already...back to the kitchen to think...oy!

Wow, FS you posted here! Kol HaKavod.

Fresh Challa (finished the bread flour, yay!)
Chicken soup from freezer
Grilled Chicken
Star Pasta (big Shabbat favorite), Rice, Potatoes
Diced Zucchini in sauce
Roasted Peppers in Balsamic Vinegar/Fresh Garlic/Cilantro (we'll see how that ends up tasting)
Cabbage Salad
Cucumber Salad
Carrot Salad
Chocolate Chip Cookies for dessert

Day:
Challa
Grilled Pargiot
Repeat starches
Repeat salads plus leftover pickles made last week and tehina
Melon

Nice, simple, fresh food. The only prepared food left to haul out of the freezer is roast turkey breast, which will be good in sandwiches made with all the bread we have to finish.

Crazy week this week and was scheduled to have 20 students shabbos lunch. A good friend that I haven't seen in ages and that doesn't usually make shabbos invited me, so I actually rescheduled the students. Which I never, ever do.

Major Hashgacha pratis, because there is no way in the world I could have cooked for 20 people today or yesterday.

Tonights menu:

Challah from freezer

Chicken soup

Chicken and Rice

Cupcakes for Dessert

And tomorrow we are out!
