It's beautiful just the fact that the media is actually portraying an ultra-orthodox group in a positive light. But I don't think the pics. shed any light on the beauty of the lubavitch community or the wonderful kiruv work.
She could've done a better job at that.

But is that what she was trying to do? As I said, she doesn't work for Lubavitch, what does she care about the message that Lubavitch wants to present to the world? She works for National Geographic, which is interested in presenting different and exotic people.

Can't you tell from her pictures she's an artistic photographer? She put up pictures she likes. I agree with you, she's not selling or working for Chabad, it's her personal feelings and photo shoots she happens to like. Very Happy Besides, don't the shluuchim doing the Mitzvah with of Lulav and Esrog portray shlichus, the conventions etc.
You should also check out the magazine... it's just beautiful that there's so much positivity on ultra-Orthodox Jews...

Not only is she a photographer trying to find pictures of interest, she spent *2 1/2 years* photographing Lubavitch. I'm sure she had MANY photos to chose from, and from her POV, she had to chose those that would be the most 'human interest'. The photographs from an artistic view are lovely.
