I find the Chol-Moid ads don't give any info what you are seeing, that bothers me if I would pay a lot of money to see something at lest tell me what it's about. |
I agree. A 2-3 minute trailer is a great selling point. I don't know why they don't compile this after filming.

For me that’s the only thing that kinda makes sense. They probably rather people go to the public showings bc then they can pay the overhead, even if they are charging less you are more likely to go with friends kids etc

There is sometimes a trailer but most of the time it doesn’t give you any info about the actual storyline. It just has intense music with dramatic scenes from the film (little/no words, can’t hear actresses, etc.). So they aren’t exactly helpful trailers. I’ve seen some of the rentals have a dropdown option “description” tab that has a short paragraph description. Not super helpful, but it’s something.

I was disappointed that this year many of the rentals doubled in price from last year, and a number of the new ones adopted the "pay per viewer" model. I can't afford Chol Hamoed trips (even free ones) because of the price of transportation, and showing videos has been our replacement. This year I had to cut down on those too.

Whoever is showing it to the public is paying much more than $40 or $50 for the license to show it in a public forum.
You don't have the right to show a movie to the public - even for free.
It is the same with music. If a restaurant or bar plays music, then need a license. Typically the music licenses are made with either ASCAP or BMI for a flat fee depending on the size of the place.
When someone performs music on stage, there also is a license fee for the right to perform the music.

Money - a good trailer is an additional expense and a mainstream movie will have hire special companies that specialize in these.
I would have to assume the budget for these films is extremely low given the very low demand for them because of the extremely specialized market they serve.
