I’m not in any way saying that’s it’s crazy that Lakewood skls aren’t giving off just schools in my position. |
I actually lived in an OOT community where we had off Labor Day and Presidents Day but rarely Thanksgiving and Memorial Day.
The logic being Labor Day school will start right after.
Presidents Day there was in-service day.
But Thanksgiving is so close to Chanukah, or Sukkos. Same with Memorial Day being so close to Shavuos, they didn't want the extra vacation days.
Dec 25 and New Years bshita we had school.

Its not a thing in the charedi world.
But it most certainly is in the mo world.
I havent lived in america in a LONG time, but we always had off. I would think mo schools, and even some jpf ones, have off on thanksgiving.

The major Jewish migration happened well before the second world war, it started in the 1880s. My great grandparents were part of that one. Could be that there were fewer Jews so fewer descendants. I will say that from what I've heard, the attrition was great. There wasn't much of an infrastructure. I would be happy to be wrong.
If we have members here whose families were here before the Civil War and their direct chain was unbroken, please chime in. I'd love to hear your stories.
And I don't know which pre WWII decade was hardest re Shabbos. It was a struggle for my great-grandparents and grandparents certainly till WWII.

The survivors brought many great things to America, but they can't take credit for the work of the people before. By the time the survivors arrived, there were many Jewish schools and Shuls and communities. Of course they contributed but they aren't the source of them. |
And I completely agree with this.
