I would definitely get lessons for the child that wants to be a lifeguard. It’s great for her to know how to swim that well (plus cpr and saving drowning people) and she can work at camps and make nice money. It’s worth it.

I learned how to swim on my own like your kids and wish I had professional swimming lessons. Its a different type of swimming- knowing how to "get by", getting fro point A to point B, treading, vs. Swimming efficiently, not getting tired easily, "swimming like a fish". Especially if your daughter would like to become a lifeguard.
I think if you have the $$, it's a worthy investment

The important thing is for kids (and adults) to be water-safe.
I grew up with a pool, and learned how to swim well without lessons. (OK, we won't talk about technique.) My sons did not grow up with a pool, and yes, we got them formal lessons.
