What distress does it cause you besides possible PTSD or inability to sleep?
Yes, the sound is bad. So is drunk loud singing to those not in the know.

No resemblance at all. Drunk loud singing might be annoying, not terrorizing.
Fireworks are scary. My children are afraid of the noise, my 9 year old was terrified it'll land on his head.
I have no idea why you're so bent on defending this. Are you the ones blowing these things up after 10?

I used to love fireworks...

But now, I think I would skip it. Enjoy it, folks! May the next generation be so innocent that they just watch the pretty lights

I confess I do enjoy the fireworks. But I would not enjoy it if my kids were up terrified or it was completely nonstop.

Lol nice try. As annoyed as anyone at a few hours of noise and was not even watching them.
My point was really about the OP talking about non Jews. We tend to forget how non Jews are inconvenienced by our actions.
Do you think non Jewish kids aren't scared of drunk singing?

Drunk singing is harmless, unless they grew up around drunks. Then it's triggering and PTSD.
Fireworks are not harmless and when theyre practically by my window, I live on the top floor of my building, it looks as if it'll come crashing straight in.
Whatever. No point in going in circles. It's midnight now either way.

First of all, I don't know where you live but in my neighborhood, it's not a few hours of noise. It's non stop bangs and booms and smoke filled streets from around 7:00 until they run out, it's midnight now and not slowly down. The bangs of some of the firecracker varieties are so loud they make the house shake and the ones on my block make the bedrooms light up. BH my kids are good sleepers and I have noise machines and they were ready for this so when they got woken up they just watched from bed. But no, this is not just inconvenient noise, this is a full, sensory overload sleepless night.
Second of all, no, non Jewish kids aren't scared of Bochurim singing even if they are drunk. Sorry. Don't compare, that's incredibly rude.

Not sure if you realize fireworks can start fires when sparks land. I remember a family friend many years ago had a fire start on their roof from fireworks

I have PTSD from Ukraine.

Veterans, Israelis, Ukrainians, all have PTSD.

It matters that we are being harmed.

It does sound like 1776 outside, but it's pretty fireworks which are perfectly safe when you are indoors. Not good for ptsd though.

I'm glad there is a rise of patriotism. I haven't heard fireworks like this since the 1980's. [Actually a lot of young people don't know what July 4th is]

Fireworks ARE illegal in New York, which also includes Brooklyn
Maybe there are a lot more tonight because shoplifting is also illegal. But who cares ? "Petty" crimes are not enforced and prosecuted. There is no fear of the law and G-d and it's only going to get worse if things don't improve.
