If you don't have fever, you can go and next time stop testing.
Same as a strep test would be positive even after the antibiotics kicks in and you might still test positive for flu even after your fever Fades after a day or two.

It’s not about whether or not she actually has covid. Whatever she has is making her not feel well, therefore she shouldn’t go to work, and be around other people and possibly get them sick.
Would you send your kid to school if they weren’t feeling well? I certainly hope you wouldn’t.

She specifically said that if it was just a cold, she would have pushed herself to go. If she had said that she was feeling badly enough to stay home regardless, of course she should stay home!

Her first sentence is “I’ve been feeling weak and horrible since yesterday and have a bad cold.” No, she should not go to work. Hasof. Nothing to do with testing or fever or not fever.

I dont think OP should go.
Im just going to comment on the flip side.
Just to be understanding and compassionate if our kids teachers are out and the school doesn't have enough substitutes. Or if your child's babysitter cancels and can't find a babysitter.
We frequently have complaints that babysitters and playgroup Morahs are taking advantage and canceling. Or schools don't have teachers and have 8th grade "monitors" as substitutes, or combined classes or some other sub-optimal situation.
Let's just be compassionate to all sides.

It isn't about the test per say ( and FYI if you knowingly go into public places and infect others with covid there is a special place for you.)
She is symptomatic and SICK. With anything you should stay home. She said she doesn't have a desk job. That means she interacts with people. If she worked at a restaurant do you want someone sniffling and coughing making your food? Want your kids teachers to get your kid sick which means you will be sick within next week which just happens to be YK?
And covid isn't a picnic for everyone. People are still getting long covid.

Did they all go for PCR that came out negative? Is that how you know they are false positives at home?

I would extend that to anything contagious.

Just going to leave this here.
If someone is feeling horrible they should definitely not be going in to school or work and if they have a fever they also shouldn't. But there are many times in the winter that we - or pir kids- wake up with a nose that is a little runny or a slight cough or it tickle in our throat and even the health professionals say it's okay to be out.

That’s different than being weak and not feeling well. My kids go to school with a slight cold or cough. Even if they only have a slight cough or cold, I won’t send them to school if they aren’t feeling well.

First of all, refuah shleimah, I hope you feel better soon! Definitely stay home and rest, pushing yourself usually makes it take longer to recover, so it is worth it to stay home and give yourself that extra time to get well. If you aren't feeling well, your body is telling you that you need to slow down and take care of yourself.
But really, please don't go to work sick! Someone at my husband's work did that and my husband caught COVID for the second time and brought it home without knowing. He had only a cold, but thankfully he tested because I'm high risk. But because he was positive, he actually had to leave home to be quarantine somewhere else as I am high risk and post-partum, leaving me alone to care for all the kids all by myself including the newborn while I am still recovering after birth. But it was too late, as within a few days it was clear that he had already given COVID to me and to our baby who was a few weeks old. I was extremely sick for several days (including a suspected blood clot in my lung, b"H turned out to be nothing), as well as in and out of urgent care every few days with breathing problems while I was sick and for over a month afterwards. All this while trying to recover after giving birth and take care of a newborn who was also sick. I could barely take care of my baby for weeks, much less the rest of the family, it was awful for the whole family.
You never know who might be high risk or immunocompromised or even some healthy who might just come down with a bad case. You don't want to make anyone sick. If it was the flu that just seemed like a bad cold, I would say the same (I'm high risk for that too). Or even just a cold can affect some people much worse than other if they have underlying conditions or while fasting for Yom Kippur.
Please, stay home if you're sick - for yourself and for others. Refuah shleimah!

This morning I remembered I have a covid 19 test kit at home so I tested and came up positive in less than a minute. I really don't want to miss work for a silly cold and if I wouldn't have tested I would have for sure pushed through the discomfort and went.
Now that I know it's covid I'm giving it second thought. Should I go? |
It’s not a “silly cold,” it’s covid. Covid is very contagious and for people who are older, immuno-compromised or have certain medical conditions, it can still be dangerous.
You should definitely not go to work.

The rapids have false negatives. But if it comes up positive it’s highly certain it’s covid.

DH came down with a cold from shul A/C and he took a test yesterday, also negative .
It’s not mind games. If it’s Covid it’s positive if not , not.
But , before Covid ever existed , if one had a cold and felt lousy and weak , they should have not been going to work either , to expose others to your germs. Take Covid out of t he picture and the same rule applies. Bosses do not appreciate it when an employee shows up sick and then sickens the other employees. They’d rather you stay home and heal. |
Exactly. Exposing others and risking them also ending up suffering is selfish and inconsiderate.

So in other words they couldn’t care less if you spread it to others, their only concern is whether you’re well enough to perform for them. Nice.

Sadly too many mothers do.
