Only if you are eating at unreliable restaurants. Any restaurant with a reliable hechsher has a mashgiach making sure that produce subject to infestation is checked according to guidelines. Ask in the kitchen before you eat. Restaurants have lost their hechsher for non compliance. Some kashrus agencies such as KCL will only allow restaurants to use bagged lettuce with a hechsher and wil not allow checking at all.

Very true. I sometimes see the mashgiach sit and check the produce. Sometimes Ill ask for something like broccoli and the waiter will say that the mashgiach doesn’t allow it….

No it doesn't!!! The CRC says to discard the 4 outer layers and then each individual piece under those 4 layers has to be rinsed thoroughly front and back. No way you can roast whole wedges with those guidelines. https://consumer.crckosher.org.....bles/

Wow thank you
I never noticed that until now! I always remove the first four layers and then slice

So our Rav explained a little more, broccoli there's gaps, you can wash, rinse, shake it out. Cauliflower the are in the florets which are very tight and it's very infested...the are deep inside the florets...

So this is strange to me because broccoli was always considered worse than cauliflower. For instance the CRC says this about broccoli - It is very impractical and close to impossible for the average consumer to properly check fresh or frozen broccoli. For cauliflower it gives guidelines for checking using a thrip cloth. I would think that because the florets are so tight it might be less likely for bug to crawl in...

Bugs are a new phenomenon?

This is how it was explained to me in simple terms:

Pesticides get rid of the larger and more generally offensive bugs.
But in doing that the ecosystem has been messed with, and so there's a proliferation of the smaller bugs that were once kept in check by those larger ones.
