I'm looking to hire a cleaning lady/ housekeeper. What's the going rate? If it makes a difference, I'm not in New York.

My neighbor just got someone for every other week. Our houses are big: 4 BR, 2.5 baths, 2 stories. Hers is $70 for that. One woman or possibly two.

I have a woman come for $10/hour.
in two hours she manages to: change my linen, remake the guest room beds, tidy up a little, clean my kitchen VERY well, wash my downstairs floors and vaccuum the whole upstairs.... as well as clean all the bathrooms.
I have her come every other friday which works for us.
more than the price- make sure you can trust her and that she's reliable.

I live very "out of town" and I pay $12/hour. She is always on time, doesn't poke around and she speaks English as her first language so we don't have any miscommunications. She is also very patient with my kids and lets them follow her around and "help" without slacking off.
She scrubs 2 full bathrooms, my kitchen, microwaves, fridge, stove,
does 2 bedrooms, the family room, living room, dining room (dust, glass, vacuum) and the silver about once every 3-4 weeks and she does it within 3 hours.
