My brother used to work at the one on Ave J I think... I'll email him (and his wife) and ask if he knows.

Thanks so much. I really enjoy that and General Tso's chicken which is very similar just without the sesame seeds basically.

I don't eat it so I can't tell you what IS in there. |
Well the reason I wrote plum sauce in quotations, is because there aren't actual plums in there. Most Hoisin sauces are actually made from high fructose corn syrups and food dyes
FYI, you can find Kosher Hoisin sauce in Landau's supermarket in Boro Park.

Ok, here's what my brother had to say:
a generic bottle. ask them the brand name & tell them its for dietary/allergy reasons
So chances are it's the red 'plum' sauce from La Choy or some Heimish brand.

Fabulous, can you tell me what they say?
I made pinktichel's sweet & pungent & the breading for the chicken tasted exactly like KD's sweet & pungent chicken. I had used a diff sauce (not pinktichels- didnt have all the ingredients) & regretted it cuz it was ok, but not amazing like KD's...

The sesame chicken is good, but nothing like the Sino Steak sandwitch!

Can you buy this in a local store?
Do you know if this is specifically what they use?

I just bought this & it came out amazing! Seems exactly like KD's. Gave to my sis who's much more knowledgable about Sweet & Pungent than me I'll see what she says.
Got it in my regular kosher supermarket.
Thanks a ton 3QTS

Would you believe that I haven't??
I bought the sauce awhile ago but I can't really eat fried chicken now and I'm not just making it for one person. So it's gonna have to wait till after baby. I'll try to remember to post when I do.

Would you beleive that I finally made it last night and it came out awesome!!
First I made "fried" brown rice. I boiled brown rice earlier in the day and put it to chill in fridge. When I was ready to make supper, I put a tiny drop of oil in a deeper frying pan and sauteed just a little (still wanted it crunchy yet not sharp) some diced/chopped onions. removed from pan. Added a tiny bit more oil and made scrambled eggs from two eggs (with spices in it). Took out of pan and added a tiny bit more oil, sauteed the rice. Added back in the onion and eggs and lite soy sauce. YUM!! Like the store only better and healthier.
Then I cut thinned and trimmed chicken cutlets into nuggets. I made a batter of some flour, egg, water, a tiny bit of oil, salt and paprika, baking powder. Fried on both sides with very little oil (for two people, took just two batches in a smallish frying pan). Removed. Added a nice amount of asian menus general tso's sauce. It sizzled cuz pan was hot. Added back in chicken and broccoli florets that I had boiled a bit before and tossed for two minutes.
I served it on top of the rice. My dh couldn't believe that I had made it. The sauce is delicious, spicy but mildly so as it says on the bottle. This is definitely a supper that I will be making again.

Also bought the sauce... I see the secret is pineapple concentrate, so I guess I can make it. It has a very heavy vinegar odor, something I cannot tolerate. When you inhale it, you need to cough!
