I just sent my husband out to buy chicken so I can make a big pot of soup. It's the craziest thing but there is no fresh chicken at all. Only frozen. I want to get this soup going right away. If I throw frozen chicken into boiling water to get the soup going, rather then wait for it to defrost first, is this a health issue? And if not a health issue, will the chicken turn rubbery and weird? Has anyone done this with a good outcome?

I've done it before when I didn't have time to let it defrost and my soup came out fine.

I asked this question a few weeks ago, everyone gave different views, I ended up putting in the frozen chicken and it was one of hte best soups I have made. the chicken was not rubery, but we don't eat it in the soup, I usually make something wiht it, ie eggrolls, chicken pot pie, etc.

Thank you ladies! I'm going to go for it. Looks like the results will be good enough, if not great.

oh I would never do it ... soak it for a while in luke warm water changing it every so often ... much better than going straight for the boil ... it will be a rubber ducky ...

greenfire, I admire you truly, but never put food to thaw in lukewarm water unless you enjoy playing Russian roulette with food poisoning. put frozen poultry in COLD water and change it OFTEN, at least every 1/2 hour.
