Can I use oil instead of marge in a fruit crisp, or will the topping not be crispy?

Here's a recipe for a crumble topping that I got from the Hamodia some time ago. I've made it a few times; it's not quite as crunchy as a margarine crumble, but it does a pretty good imitation.
Combine 2/3 cup whole-wheat (or spelt) flour, 1/3 to 1/2 up canola oil, 2/3 cup demerara sugar and a pinch of salt in the food processor until almost dough-like. Add 1 cup oats and 1 cup walnuts and process until nuts are coarse chunks, or finer if preferred.

I substitute oil for margarine in everything = 3/4 cup oil = 1 cup margarine.

I find to make a toppings crunchier when using oil I will use 1/2 demera or white sugar and 1/2 brown sugar - I find the brown sugar adds to the crunch

I used sucanat. I did not like the way it came out, not crumbly at all. maybe I need to play around with the recipe a bit.
