I gained 20 lbs after visiting relatives in Israel for a couple of months over the holidays. I'm an extremely athletic and active person (see username Smile ) but the drastic change in diet, eh, fressing, over there really took its toll.

Because I am very physically active and I usually have a very healthy diet, I'm sure I'm going to lose the weight. My problem is that almost nothing in my wardrobe fits me right now. I'm a very fashion-conscious person, so this is a problem for me. I'm also in the process of moving, so money is really tight.

Here is what I have to work with now. It would be great to get some suggestions on how I can spruce things up cheaply during the weight loss process b"H

-a lot of really nice, high end shoes, accessories, jewelry
-a bunch of layering tees that are extremely tight on me right now, but I could use to fill in necklines
-two xcvi skirts in black

that's unfortunately it and I only have about 100 bucks to spare right now. Oh and I'll be in California for the next month so light fall clothing is all I need.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Can you shop on ebay? You can get a lot of used clothing for $100 on ebay, get it in the size that fits you, at least tops, and you can always give them away when you're done with them.

Can you sew? For $100, I could make myself about 5 skirts and still have enough left over for some tops.

Wow. You bake fresh bread every day AND you sew your own clothes! I am impressed. I would love to learn how to sew.

Trust me, I'm not nearly as impressive as I sound. And I don't have children to chase after. I haven't sewn anything in quite a while, but I learned how to as a child. When I became shomer tzniut, it came in handy.

If you want to learn to sew, it's really easy. You can hire someone to teach you the basics of a sewing machine in a few hours. After that, it's mostly trial and error. It takes fairly little skill to make skirts, which is mostly what I do.

You can get a few pieces that are basic and also will mix and match. like a denim skirt, a dress, a jacket, long sweater, tweed skirt, nice white shirt, etc.. depends on your style and what you need. check out TJ Maxx if you've got one near you.

Wow avigailmiriam, I wish I could sew...Maybe I should go take some lessons

I solved this "dilemma" by picking up a couple of big sweaters at Ross.
I'm going to go to JC Penney and check out those jackets...

At the time I was pear shaped, large difference in top size to bottom size. This jacket, worn with a black gored skirt and a long sleeve black shell underneath, evened me out. I got loads of compliments Simchas Torah in shul! (BTW I'm very fashion conscious)

If I had to pick one item to purchase when I gain weight, it's a sweater coat. Whenever I gain weight I rely on it so much. I can still wear all my clothes and no one notices that the back is skin tight. So perfect for covering my hips and butt. I recently bought a long sweater shawl. Like it has sleeves but it's long and the front is just hanging material for a shawl type wrap thing.

If there are items in your closet that still close, but is not wearable because it pulls in the wrong places now or makes things stick out, then you can still keep wearing them with the sweater or shawl on top!
