Reas In Her Hands: The Education of Jewish Girls in Tsarist Russia, by Eliyana Adler, a few weeks ago. Very interesting, about the private Jewish girls' schools that existed during the 19th century in Eastern Europe. It was brief (<200 pages), and worthwhile.

Still reading Theology in Responsa. Also, in parallel, another Shaul Stamfer book, Families, Rabbis and Education: Traditional Jewish Society in Nineteenth-Century Eastern Europe. And also Perpetuating the Masorah: Halakhic, Ethical and Experiential Dimensions, a short book of five essays by Rav Yitzhak Twersky.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s memoir Infidel and her book about how Islam needs a reformation, Heretic. Absolutely fascinating. (Some of what she says about Yiddishkeit when comparing to Islam is inaccurate but overall I’m finding the content really interesting, if also disturbing at how insane so much of Islam is).

Thank you! It’s called the third daughter. I reserved it from the library just now.
