Right the taxes are crazy over there. I’m not so prepared for that.
I’m familiar with the area bc I grew up there (but have lived in queens for so so long that I’m not living it daily)
I also am nervous moving with all my kids. Yes they will be excited about a brand new house that actually has space for all of them. But they will be leaving all their friends and schools which have been a good place for them. Haven’t told them about this. It’s part of the unknown if this is a good idea. But I really don’t have interest in buying a bigger house in queens and mine has no space for extensions etc

My in-laws helped us buy a very big house. We had the room to have a big family, we host every holiday and when my in laws needed to live with us, there was plenty of space here.
Buy the big house and be the one to host future family events.

I live in the five towns and am extremely happy. It is a very wholesome place to raise kids because ppl are not put into boxes the way other cities are. The schools here have a lot of overlap and you are not judged by the school you send your kids to.
We are a simple minded klai kodesh family. I bought a small house when I had three kids and bh after having three more I put on a pretty extension. I always say If I can do it again I would just move to woodmere. It is nice yeshivish neighborhood. My house plus the extension costed me thst same price as a decent size woodmere house
And I would not have had to deal with construction.
Take the house and don’t look back!

Thank you everyone for the encouragement. Really!
My husband is not in klei Kodesh so how exactly are we supposed to afford those taxes?!
I know there’s a nice yeshivish crowd and that’s why we even considered it.
Also so scared to uproot the kids

Thinking of Moving from queens living in a place that doesn’t fit us to woodmere where we will have a house with space close to my parents and siblings (who we are close with)
If my oldest was 4 I wouldn’t think twice about this. But oldest being 11 (and many kh following) is a little more challenging

It’s going to be a culture shock. Queens is really low key compared to five towns.

What does this mean? Only klei kodesh can afford the taxes? Do you mean the opposite?
